Biography

I am a Clinical Psychologist with experience in assisting adults adjust to stressful life events such as grief, loss and change, relationship distress and workplace difficulty; as well as treat long standing symptoms of anxiety or low mood.

I first completed an Honours degree in Psychology at UNSW in 2006 and spent the next ten years undertaking clinical research studies on mood disorders (bipolar disorder and depression), personality styles, social anxiety, alcohol use disorders and brain disorders involving memory or psychosis.  In 2016, I graduated from a Masters degree in Clinical Psychology from Macquarie University and became a registered psychologist with the Psychology Board of Australia.

Before entering private practice, I undertook clinical training in hospital and non-government settings which focused on providing therapy to sexually diverse clients, who are often experiencing ongoing stress following past trauma and difficulties with drug use and/or HIV. I have special interests in treating anxiety disorders such as social anxiety, and understanding the underlying factors that lead people toward addictive coping behaviours.

In addition to providing emotional support, I am also a change-focused psychologist. I enjoy helping people find their agency in adulthood. This often involves identifying childhood survival coping strategies and replacing with more relevant and useful coping styles for thriving in life as it is now and into the future. I prefer to use a schema therapy framework, although I have undertaken training in other evidence-based therapeutic approaches, including cognitive-behaviour therapy, dialectical behaviour therapy, and acceptance and commitment therapy and can integrate these approaches when needed.
